Raikes School of Computer Science and Management at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as well as an Assistant Professor of Practice of Software Engineering. I am the Associate Director for Design Studio in the Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as well as an Assistant Professor of Practice of Software Engineering. In this capacity, I am responsible for research and strategic partnerships for the Raikes School. I direct the operations of the 75-person development and industry outreach program, Design Studio, and oversee faculty research activities in the school.
I have a rich interdisciplinary background in software design and engineering, software architecture, and innovation gained over 15 years developing software and leading teams in corporate, startup, and institutional research environments. I have served as Chief Software Architect for the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UNL, President of Red Brain inc. President of OrangePeel Inc., and Development Lead in IBM Global Services. I hold an M.Sc, in Computer Science and a B.Sc. in Computer Science and German.
My areas of expertise include software architecture and design, mobile and web application development, lean startup, agile methods, design thinking, big data, knowledge management, and program analysis.
Associate Director for Design Studio and Assistant Professor of Practice @ I oversee the operations of the Design Studio including: development of curriculum, project evaluation and acquisition, software development, staffing, budget allocation, and strategic planning. I also teach Introduction to Software Engineering (RAIK383H), Software Architecture (RAIK401H), and Software Performance and Optimization (RAIK402H). From May 2012 to Present (3 years 8 months) President @ Co-Founder and chief executive, chief architect, iOS team lead, and SaaS developer of a spin-off venture from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln to commercialize software products from research generated intellectual property. Red Brain focuses on the development of location-based services and mobile application software with a focus on law enforcement. From December 2009 to Present (6 years 1 month) Lecturer @ Taught RAIK383H - Introduction to Software Engineering, Worked with faculty to integrate business problems with semester-long development project that simulates real-world software engineering experience. From January 2010 to May 2012 (2 years 5 months) Software Architect @ Lead architect and director of an interdisciplinary research group within the department of Computer Science and Engineering, formed to provide professional software engineering services to grant funded research throughout the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Responsible for the operations of the group, managed a budget of over $6 million and a staff of 9 engineers, interfaced with both internal and external clients, secured funding through grant writing, and provided software architecture for software developed by the group.
