The Data Infrastructure team provides the foundational blocks for building scalable systems and services that fuel our business. The team is organized around three problem spaces: Online Storage, Streams, and Data Analytics and Processing.
The Online Storage team builds the storage gateway and underlying database engines that power all of LinkedIn's desktop and mobile applications, including all content, advertising and media serving. See http://data.linkedin.com/projects/espresso and open-source Voldemort for details.
The Streams team manages all data flows, from change capture events for a database, to data records ("events" or "logs") propagated from a source application to one or more consumers. It powers everything from user activity logging to machine-level events and statistics to monitor data centers. See open-source Kafka and Samza for details.
The Analytics Infrastructure team builds analytics processing engines and the core data warehouse, powering reporting and dashboards to complex collaborative filtering recommendations, people you may know, and skills pages. The team contributes to open source, including Hadoop and data ingestion platforms such as Camus, and will open-source a new real-time analytics serving platform in late 2014.
The Premium Subscriptions team builds applications across desktop, mobile and tablet, to help members "Find and Be Found" - send messages to any LinkedIn member, enjoy advanced search facets, and see more information on people who view their profile.
