Senior Software Engineer @ Projects I have been working on include: Outsourcing tool to enable subcontracting studios to send shots and other data back to DD. Tools to enable TDs to install software in DD's project tree and across sites. TD tool Makefile enhancements. Tool for managing various show assets. Maya interface to DD's proprietary muscle simulator. PyQt interfaces for the muscle and facial tools. Command line tool for ticket submission to Shotgun. Module used across the facility for storing and retrieving hierarchical preferences. Extending functionality of DD's hair/fur/feather system. I am using primarily Python and C++, Qt and PyQt toolkits. From October 2009 to Present (6 years 1 month) Middle school exploratory teacher @ I taught a twice weekly computer programming elective class to 6th-8th graders for two quarters (same class, twice). We learned a little bit about C++ (really C with some extra stuff - there were not enough class sessions to get into object oriented programming). We used a curriculum and notes I developed over the summer of 2009 for these students. From August 2009 to March 2010 (8 months) Senior Development Software Engineer @ At Disney Animation I worked on a variety of projects and tools to support Disney's animated feature films. These included the development of math and geometry libraries and algorithms, user tools for look development, the development of a proprietary animation framework and tools within that framework, 2D/3D integration, legacy data extraction, as well as some R&D projects, including a prototype tool for creating and editing leafy tree canopies.
Disney is a Maya house, so, in addition to having written stand-alone tools, I have had a lot of experience creating plugins for Maya, both in MEL and using the Maya API and C++.
I have worked on projects on my own and with teams of other developers. I have also worked directly with production artists to develop tools and procedures to address their needs. I have written design documents and tool documentation, participated in code reviews, given presentations for users and developers, mentored new employees, and participated in the specification and testing of new Maya features we requested as part of a Disney-Autodesk custom engineering arrangement.
