Dr Vanderhoven's professional experience demonstrates his ability to bring people together to create impact. Director of a biotech expert company, Governor of a university board, and Medical Doctor. Dr Vanderhoven has a wealth of experience working in the biotechnology industry, having most recently worked as Research Development Manager - Faculty of Science at The University of Sheffield from January 2013 to June 2014. In this position, he was responsible for developing and managing research projects within the Faculty of Science at The University of Sheffield. In this way, he was able to contribute to thedisciplinary work of the School of Science at The University of Sheffield, and help to drive cultural change within the Faculty of Science. Additionally, he also served as Vice President Global Business Change at FujiFilm Diosynth Biotechnologies from June 2018 to August 2020, based in Basel, Switzerland. From here, he was responsible for all aspects of the company’s business, from marketing and sales to financial management. He also acted as a sales and marketing manager for Metrohm UK from May 2011 to January 2013, and as Director at National Horizons Centre from September 2007 to May 2011. In this role, Dr Vanderhoven helped to draft and implement the UK National Industrial Biotechnology Strategy to 2030, which he now presents to the public as a book. Board Member at Tees Valley Combined Authority, he has also contributed to the development of this body, as well as working closely with other members of the board. As a board member, Dr Vanderhoven has a lot to say on a variety of public policy issues, and he is also an expert on renewable energy. One of the things thatsets my skills apart from other experts in the field is my ability to bring together the public and private sectors to create impact. I have also been a Governor on the LEP Board, and have been responsible for bringing the public and private sectors together to create impact at the LEP Board. I am also a Research Development Manager at BBSRC, where I have worked on a number of important projects.
