Don Lemon was born in Miami, Florida on December 2, 1955. He started his journalism career as a play-for-the-team columnist for the Miami Herald, where he wrote about Miami basketball, the Miami Dolphins and celebrity gossip.Lemon then moved to New York City and worked at The Daily News from 1982 to 1988. He was the owner, publisher and columnist of the paper, and wrote about politics, business and the City of New York.After three years at The Daily News, Lemon became a discussant and investigative reporter for The New York Times. His first investigation was into the graft and bribery scandals in the New York City mayor's office. Lemon also reported on the Persian Gulf War.Lemon was the New York Times’ investigative writer who exposed the Times Square bombing in 1990. He was also the author of the book “The awful fact about images” which detailed how management at The New York Times allowed the tabloid photos of the bombing to be spread around the media.Don Lemon is also the founder and editorial director of the online news firm WNYC. Lemon co-founded the news division of wNYC, which was one of the first news organizations to offer live streaming of its shows from cities around the world.After being the editorial director of WNYC for six years, Lemon announced his departure in May of 2019.
