📖 Summary
Head of Savings: Paragon Bank @ A high profile role as the authorised person in the first savings provider to be granted a banking license under the streamlined application process. Paragon Bank is a subsidiary of the FTSE 250 listed Paragon Group. With support functions outsourced to the Group responsibilities are broad ranging and include: - Implementing a product range and marketing mix to prove a capability to attract retail deposits in volume. - Embedding best practice across product development, marketing, PR and other support functions to ensure targets are delivered. - Formulating acquisition, cross sales and retention strategies based on market and customer insight. - Focused liquidity management to support efficient growth across a range of niche lending areas. - Keeping Bank, Group and external stakeholders informed on market, trading and regulatory developments. - Oversee a third party supplier of infrastructure and administrative services cost effectively. From August 2014 to Present (1 year 5 months) Savings Product Planning Manager @ Monitor the drivers of savings performance, linking management information to market insight to inform decision making. Successfully deliver 2012 targets whilst influencing business planning to 2017. Adapted to a new governance process, providing justification for a range of product pricing decisions and tactical implementations to manage funding levels. Support Sales Development and Marketing in their understanding of product benefits and the demands of the business. This allowed both areas to focus on the key customer benefit messages rather than rate. From March 2012 to July 2014 (2 years 5 months) Savings Product Management Manager @ Manage a team of three product managers to deliver savings targets. Successfully mentor colleagues to increase the skill set within the team. Introduce a highly successful exclusively distributed cash ISA, resulting in over 30% online market share. Take an influential role in discussions with Virgin Money during due diligence and in preparation for sale. This included influencing the business plan then co-ordinating the implementation of products to ensure a successful launch. Instigate a comprehensive training suite for customer facing colleagues as a means of improving ISA performance and reducing our reliance on rate to attract new ISA customers. From September 2011 to March 2012 (7 months) Savings Product Manager @ Design and implement savings propositions to enable successful acquisition, engagement and retention of savers across distribution channels. Initial successes being: Broaden the product range, adding customer centric features to build awareness and consideration. This included extending across distribution channels which had not previously been utilised. Reducing reliance on fixed term bonds and ‘top of market’ pricing to acquire new savings customers. Share best practice and market insight to build business cases for investments to bring savings capabilities in line with the market. From June 2010 to September 2011 (1 year 4 months) Head of Product Development @ Leading the product development team more man-management responsibilities to add to technical skills and market knowledge. Thus far we have: Generated the biggest retail funding inflow ever for the Society, out performing all other Societies considerably. This required a range of marketing mixes to manage product costs and resource constraints. Oversaw a return to mortgage lending following a deliberate step away from the market. Provide strategic updates to the executive and regulator on the reductions on the reliance of wholesale funding and product proposals to support that goal. Liaise with the Head of Sales (Branch and Contact Centre) to reduce retail funding churn and improve income generation from maturity defence. From July 2009 to June 2010 (1 year) Product Planning & Development @ After a very successful year in product management my role was expanded to include: Planning, forecasting and feedback of both funding and lending to enforce it's strategic importance to the Society. Take primary responsibility for the delivery of all product proposals to the Executive. Liaise with the regulator on funding levels, planned activity and results to ensure awareness and confidence with retail activity. Support the Head of Product Development on initiatives to improve lead generation and sales on structured investments, insurance and financial planning. From January 2009 to July 2009 (7 months) Savings Product Development @ Whilst responsible for the design and implementation of savings products across all channels I see my biggest achievements as being: Using my academic and analytical skills to improve product planning and processes, enabling the Society to increase retail share balance by 13% during 2008. Tracking movements in funding accurately and regularly for the first time allowed forecasting to become increasingly more scientific. Expanding distribution through the postal channel with press advertising to increase sales from outside of the geographic heartland. During 2008 the Society launched it's most successful savings TV campaign using a newly developed ISA product. I lead this conscious effort to grow ISA market share, increasing ISA balances by 55% and market share by 2.8% over 2008. Quickly adapting to a new role and stepping up immediately to cover my line managers' vacancy. This provided me the chance to learn quickly from two experienced product managers as well as train two new assistants over a short timeframe. Process and profiling improvements for maturity retention improved savings retention by 8%. From October 2007 to January 2009 (1 year 4 months) Customer Insight Analyst @ As the Society looked to develop a customer centric approach I played a key role in that project. Within the insight team my duties covered the areas below. Project management of an Alterian marketing database implementation. Leading a review of suppliers, budgeting, proposal presentations and implementation. Provide reports and recommendations to guide product development and communications. For example, I matched external research data with internal analysis to recommend the messages, themes and product attributes for a successful campaign. Create a methodology and template to analyse cross sales from loss leading products, measuring income generation against marketing and product pricing. People management of copywriting, print and distribution whilst co-ordinating timely and effective DM campaigns. From December 2005 to October 2007 (1 year 11 months) Product Development Assistant @ Reporting to the Product Development Manager I was responsible for taking mortgage and savings product ideas to market. Copy writing literature and web content for a wide range of products to improve sales whilst complying with relevant regulations. I improved time to market for limited issue structured products by two weeks, reducing pricing risk and improving sale. Review and report on market trends. Developing good relationships with sourcing systems, table producers and aggregators. Manage relationships with third parties on a range of dual branded products. From January 2003 to November 2005 (2 years 11 months) Commercial Lending Administrator @ Providing timely and accurate support services to highly profitable customers on account queries and payments. From July 2002 to December 2002 (6 months) Customer Contact Assistant @ Working initially as a student placement, then on a part time basis over my final degree year I supported all marketing functions using a newly implemented CRM system. This role allowed me to develop expert knowledge of the Society's complex data and CRM systems. From July 2000 to July 2002 (2 years 1 month) Sales Person @ From November 1996 to June 2000 (3 years 8 months) Diploma, Management Development @ Northumbria University From 2009 to 2010 CIM Postgraduate Diploma, Marketing @ Gateshead College From 2003 to 2004 BA Honours, Business & Marketing @ University of Sunderland From 1999 to 2004 'A' Levels, Computing, Media Studies & History @ Gateshead College From 1996 to 1998 Derek Sprawling is skilled in: Strategy, CRM, Product Management, Management, Product Development, Marketing, Analysis, Project Management, Forecasting, Lead Generation, Process Improvement, Sales, Project Planning, Budgets, Business Planning
