David R. Cohen graduated from Harvard Law School in 1983. He is a litigation partner in the Pittsburgh office of Reed Smith LLP, where he leads the firm’s Records & E-Discovery Team. He is admitted to practice before courts in New York, Pennsylvania, plus the Third, Fifth and Federal Circuits, and has been admitted pro hac vice to courts in numerous other jurisdictions. Mr. Cohen has served as Special Discovery Counsel or National Discovery Counsel for a number of clients ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. He was responsible for the briefing and argument that led to the precedential cost-shifting opinion in Delta Fin. Corp. v. Morrison, 819 N.Y. S.2d 908 (N.Y. Sup. Ct. 2006). He has served as President of the Harvard Law School Association of Western Pennsylvania, Chair of the Technology Utilization Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association, and Chair of the Litigation Technologies Subcommittee of the American Bar Association Computerization Committee. He also taught as an adjunct law school professor at Duquesne Law School and has authored many technology and legal strategy articles and book chapters. Mr. Cohen serves on Advisory Boards for the Georgetown Advanced E-discovery Institute and Strafford Publications, and is also a member of the Sedona Conference, EDRM, ARMA and ILTA. He regularly serves as a presenter at CLE programs nationally and internationally. In 2013 and 2014 he was named a "Top Lawyer in Pennsylvania" in litigation. Mr. Cohen has also been recognized by Chambers USA 2014 as a leading lawyer in the area of E-Discovery He has served as a court-appointed E-Discovery Special Master on multiple occasions. He also has experience in financial services litigation, medical device and toxic tort litigation, IP, insurance coverage, government investigations, real estate, environmental, and construction litigation.
