Christine Chen came from a highly humble background. She was born in 1988, the only child of a small-time professor and a teaching assistant. Christine's mother, a low-level McDonalds worker, died when she was young, and her father, a professor at UC Berkeley, took on the role of raising her. Christine never encountered any difficult childhood experiences that led her to develop a great deal ofccompliance and resilience. Chen's parents did their best to instill in her a love of learning, and from an early age, Chen was interested in going to school.She first encountered difficulties gaining access to good schools, but she persevered. Chen attended UC Berkeley where she received a bachelor's degree in economics in 1992. Chen credits her travels to UC Berkeley with pushing her to take more challenging classes and also to develop her writing and speaking skills. Chen soon after began her career in finance, and she enjoyed great success. In 2002 she became a corporate finance leader at aJapanese financial company. Chen has also been involved in many entrepreneurship initiatives, and has been a keynote speaker on the panel 'From Start-ups to Grownups: Appropriate Pathways for Gender-Diverse Teams' at the 7th edition of the women's improve with technology conference in Boston, Massachusetts.Christine Chen has a great deal of experience with diverse work environments and has learned how to work well with people from a variety of different backgrounds. She is currently a professor of finance at Wharton Business School, where she is a key figure in the development of their business analytics courses. Chen has also been awarded a Mellon Fellowship for her work on 'From Start-ups to Grownups: Appropriate Pathways for Gender-Diverse Teams'.The challenge for Christine Chen is that she faces a great deal of discrimination in her field, which has led her to put her mentorship and training in place to support other women in their careers. Chen is also extremely dedicated to her work and takes pride in her teaching ability and ability to engage students in learning.
