Boston, MassachusettsAdvisor @ Edmit From September 2019 to December 2019 (4 months) Boston, MassachusettsChief Technology Officer @ Edmit Founded by two university vice presidents and backed by Founder Collective, Precursor, Bessemer, and other institutional and angel investors, Edmit helps families make smarter college financial choices.I joined as the company's first non-founder employee and Chief Technology Officer, and built and scaled the first two years of our product and platform. I also built a data and engineering team around the product and then implemented systems to enable that team to autonomously and rapidly implement new features, maintain our infrastructure, and ingest and inspect our wide range of data.As CTO I also served as the company's de facto software architect and chose the tech that is now enabling Edmit to scale out to 1 million+ users: - I made an early bet on Kotlin as our backend language and adopted GraphQL / React / TypeScript for our frontend development- We migrated content in a legacy CMS to a new headless CMS that was configured specifically to accommodate our human-authored content and our machine-gathered data about colleges and locations. This CMS was used to power our content site for SEO and our in-app knowledge base content.- We specified and created an internal tool and value logging system for team members to audit any calculation / fact shown to an end user. These values include user-provided fields, intermediate calculations, and source data that we gathered from external, cited sources.- I architected a custom chat bot solution that integrates Edmit content and form fields, and then led our team to implement it. From October 2017 to September 2019 (2 years) Boston, MassachusettsSoftware Engineer @ BevSpot BevSpot builds software to streamline ordering, inventory, and reporting at bars and restaurants.I was an early full-stack engineering hire responsible for components of the re-write of our monolith Django app in React / Java. I scoped and developed sections of our product like Category Level Sales Reporting, Catalog, Order Detail, Dashboard. I introduced React / Redux / TypeScript patterns to the engineering org, and designed our cloud infrastructure on AWS (EC2, ELB, Jenkins, CloudFormation). The introduction of patterns and tooling to the BevSpot engineering org made the team overall more mature, predictable, and increased the quality and quantity of our output. From February 2016 to January 2017 (1 year) Boston, MASoftware Engineer II @ Localytics Localytics works with the world's largest mobile and web brands to ingest, process, and make use of behavior and profile data about app users. I was an infrastructure engineer focused on building the internal tools and engineering platform that enabled product feature teams to be more effective. This included our AWS private cloud (EC2, ELB, CloudFormation) and the tooling required to manage it (Chef, Lambda, internal CLIs and web apps). Our tooling defragmented deployment processes, made teams less sticky, and made our platform more verifiably secure. From May 2015 to January 2016 (9 months) Boston, MASoftware Engineer @ Localytics From June 2014 to May 2015 (1 year) Boston, MAProduct Manager (Co-op) @ InsightSquared InsightSquared makes business intelligence (BI) software for small- and medium-sized businesses. As a Product Manager co-op, I coordinated the efforts of multiple functional areas (engineering, marketing, design) to align with strategy for existing and new products. I led the efforts to build a sales strike zone report, and developed subsequent marketing materials surrounding its release. I also built an internal tool to sync information about our userbase to Salesforce and Eloqua for marketing / sales automation. From May 2013 to December 2013 (8 months) Cambridge, MASoftware Engineer (Co-op) @ HubSpot I re-wrote one of HubSpot's first applications, Keyword Grader. As a member of the reports team, I also helped maintain HubSpot's entire suite of reporting applications that provided users a broad and deep look into their marketing data. From July 2012 to January 2013 (7 months) Cambridge, MASoftware Engineer (Co-op) @ Intuit Worked in the Consumer Tax Group division of Intuit in San Diego, CA. Focused on TurboTax Desktop and TurboTax Online core systems, specifically the engines that enable PDF generation and electronic filing for tax returns. From July 2011 to December 2011 (6 months) San Diego, CA
