Campbell McLaren started his career in advertising with Anomaly Data in 1984. From 1986 to 1988, he worked in the private sector as a market research supervisor in the media division of Mediacorp. From 1988 to 1992, Campbell McLaren was a research project manager at the advertising agency Catch A Rising Star Inc. He then worked as a research chemist at Roche Laboratories, first in the United States and then in Europe.
