From February 2013 to June 2015 (2 years 5 months) Austin, Texas AreaDirector of Engineering / Principle Engineer @ SceneTap I started working with SceneTap a couple weeks after the company was formed. I was responsible for all the development of backend systems, REST APIs, integration software and websites. Over the course of 7 months I architected and built the Mobile and Web API, Stats API, Venue Server Windows Service, and SceneTap.com. I also helped out the CIO with the mobile Android and iOS apps where they needed to talk to the APIs I built. It was a herculean effort to get all this code designed, developed and deployed in the 7 months before we launched. We launched in Chicago with a large amount of press and had 600,000 HTTP requests within the first 24 hours with no downtime - definitely one of my proud moments. All of our web and api code was written in Ruby, we utilized Ruby on Rails for most of our functionality, however the stats api utilized Sinatra because speed was essential to this part of our infrastructure. Each of our venues had a Windows based server that connected to our cameras, collected data and sent that data to the stats api. I developed and maintained a C# Windows Service that connects to various SDKs, Socket and HTTP APIs, and XML-RPC integrations to the different cameras and sensors we utilized. We used Postgres and Mongo to store and calculate our data, Redis for caching and storing data used between the application servers.
