From November 2015 to Present (2 months) Lead Developer @ As a member of the core product team - works on the Ruby on Rails implementation of a popular commerce platform for mid-market retailers. Also assists the strategy team with solutions and ERP integration planning. From November 2013 to November 2015 (2 years 1 month) Director, Software Design and Development @ Built a software design and development practice for Tamman - which was originally an IT consultancy based in Bryn Mawr PA (a line of business they sold in spring, 2013). Recruited, managed and served as lead developer to a team of 11 distributed designers, developers, PMs, and DevOps professionals located in Philly, Wilmington, and the UK. From January 2012 to October 2013 (1 year 10 months) Principal Software Architect @ As the Principal Software Architect I provided leadership to cross-disciplinary project teams for several high profile clients in the finance, pharmaceutical, healthcare, logistics and insurance industries; guiding implementation on an average of $7 million in projects per year. A large part of my duties involved providing strategic consulting services to executives up to the C-level on internal business processes and supporting technologies; as well as training client implementation teams on user-centered development practices. Additionally I played a key role in client engagement strategy – both in describing the value of user-centered development to prospects during the sales cycle and in structuring engagements to ensure client needs are met. Responsibilities have included acting as direct supervisor and mentor to resources in Nashville, Philadelphia and London and participating in internal operations planning. My role was not strictly managerial; I routinely wrote code for solutions – to include accessible standards-compliant client tiers, custom APIs, ecommerce solutions, enterprise content management systems, and business systems ranging from risk analysis portals to healthcare appliance monitoring systems. Languages used include XHTML/CSS, JavaScript/AJAX (jQuery, Dojo), PHP, MySQL, C#, MSSQL, XML/XSLT, Microformats, RSS/Atom/RDF and Adobe Flex. From May 2006 to July 2011 (5 years 3 months) Public Affairs Chief @ As a U.S. Marine, I served as senior enlisted advisor to the Director of Public Affairs on best practices in campaign marketing, media relations, social media strategy, and public relations. I was counted on to facilitate the development of communications strategy with the goal of garnering domestic and international support for both US operations and the humanitarian needs of the region. My responsibilities involved arranging day-to-day operations across an 11-nation area in North East Africa; including coordination with foreign-national governments, U.S. Department of State, and other agencies. I was also tasked with the design and development of a W3C and 508 conformant, multi-lingual (English, Arabic, Amharic, Somali and French) website content management system (developed in C#, MSSQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to publish a public web site as well as automate news releases to local (African and Middle Eastern) as well as U.S. media outlets. Finally, during this period I received the Joint Service Commendation Medal for “Exceptionally Meritorious Service” for actions taken during a dual helicopter crash recovery mission in February 2006. At the end of this tour I was honorably discharged from military service with no further military commitment. From March 2005 to March 2006 (1 year 1 month) Convoy Security Augmentee @ As squad leader, I served as assistant platoon sergeant and was responsible for training and administrative oversight of 38 U.S. Marines during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit was assigned daily duties throughout Kuwait and Iraq alongside third party military units to relieve operational strain caused by combat casualties. As an augmentee to those units, I assisted in providing combat security for Humanitarian Aid missions across Southern Iraq as well as providing personal security for diplomats and contractors assessing war torn areas in Iraq for possible relief missions. From February 2003 to August 2003 (7 months) Chief Operations Officer @ As Chief Operations Officer, I was responsible for overseeing operations, program management and strategic consulting for a small New Media firm. During this time I directly managed 12 employees, performed Human Resources tasks and oversaw all sales activities. Additionally – I implemented partner and marketing programs while reorganizing methodology to realize over 60% revenue growth and an increase in gross margin of 12% - supporting the transition from an in-home graphic design business to a full-service marketing solutions provider in Downtown Odessa, TX. Finally – as a developer, I managed four developers and developed web properties in PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. From 2001 to 2002 (1 year) Community Relations Chief @ As the Community Relations Chief, I assisted the Public Affairs Director in improving community relations in Fairfax and Prince William counties through the coordination of outreach events and community improvement projects – resulting in a significant year-over-year decrease in public complaints as well as an increase in productivity from local military recruiting efforts. Duties included working to resolve issues through “town hall” meetings and community involvement. As Chief Webmaster, I co-authored the first comprehensive official military instruction for the upkeep of public facing websites in response to the creation of the Section 508 Amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 – and worked as part of a group tasked with reorganizing the all Marine Corps web properties to better align with the recruiting marketing efforts of J.W. Thompson. During this time I developed my first dynamic content management system (ASP, Access, DHTML) to maintain three 508 compliant public websites for the distribution of news, photo and video to the community and national media. Additionally, I received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for design and development of the Marine Corps Operational Test and Evaluation intranet portal, which streamlined the sharing of test results among contractors and military advisors bringing new technology to the fleet.
