About Ben Jordan

Ben Jordan is a seasoned Software Engineer at Pixar Animation Studios, where he leverages his extensive background in software engineering, shading tools, and texturing artistry to drive innovation in animation technology. With a unique blend of technical expertise and artistic sensibility, Ben has played a pivotal role in the development and enhancement of proprietary tools that streamline the animation workflow. His current focus includes spearheading key projects that bridge the gap between creative vision and technical execution, ensuring that artists have the tools they need to bring their ideas to life.

One of Ben's standout achievements is the design and implementation of the material library catalog display system for Pixar's proprietary shading tool. This sophisticated system not only showcases shaders through multi-resolution custom USD geometry but also features an automated entry system that updates the catalog as new shaders are developed. This innovation enhances the look development process, allowing artists to visualize and test materials with ease, ultimately contributing to the studio's commitment to high-quality visual storytelling.

In addition to his technical prowess, Ben is known for his strong communication skills, which facilitate collaboration across various teams, including lighting, modeling, rigging, and the RenderMan team. His experience spans all types of productions, from shorts and streaming content to 30-minute TV specials, making him a versatile asset in any project. With a firm grasp of industry-standard tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Nuke, and GLSL, Ben continues to push the boundaries of what's possible in animation, ensuring that Pixar remains at the forefront of the visual effects industry.
