At Fintan, I am responsible for all aspects of investing and portfolio management. I sit on the investment and executive committees of the firm. I manage the investment team and lead deal negotiations, investment structuring and new product development.
I specialize in building custom investment funds, funds-of-one and co-investments (in hedge fund, private equity or hybrid formats) to capture unique investment and business opportunities in global capital markets. I specialize in emerging strategies and emerging managers, partnering with talented entrepreneurs to build their capital markets and financial businesses. I also managed a large fund-of-funds portfolio with a global mandate to invest in hedge fund and private equity strategies.
For the intellectual property funds, I was responsible for all aspects of sourcing and investment. I executed direct venture capital and lending investments in financial technology (fintech), energy storage, medical devices and other advanced technologies.
For the fund-of-funds portfolio, I focused on new and emerging strategies, including founding investments in emerging managers. I also managed a mature portfolio of distressed credit, activist and event driven positions. From February 2006 to January 2011 (5 years) Greater New York City AreaInvestment Associate @ Celtic House Venture Partners manages a series of early-stage venture capital funds, primarily focused on technology being developed in Canada and the United Kingdom. The firm is backed by top tier limited partners.
At Celtic House I was responsible for sourcing, due diligence and investments in technology sectors including semiconductors, optics, medical devices and nanotechnology. We built sourcing relationships with universities including University of Toronto, McGill, Cambridge and Oxford. From 2005 to 2006 (1 year) Toronto, Canada AreaInvestment Associate @ RBC Venture Partners managed a series of venture capital funds anchored by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Canada’s largest bank.
I was a member of the investment team of Primaxis Technology Ventures, which was a part of the Draper Fisher Jurvetson global network of venture capital funds. I was also a member of the investment team of the RBC Strategic Investment Fund.
At Primaxis, I focused on sourcing, due diligence and investments in early stage companies working in communications, material sciences, medical devices and nanotechnology. At the RBC Strategic Investment Fund, I focused on due diligence and investments in early stage companies working in financial technology (fintech). From 2000 to 2005 (5 years) Bio-Process Engineer @ National Research Council Canada (NRC) manages Canada’s national laboratories. The mandate of NRC is to solve technological problems of national interest to Canada and provide innovation support, strategic research and commercialization services to Canadian industry.
I was part of a team that used genetic expression systems to produce novel protein products for diagnostic and therapeutic use. Pharmaceutical companies including Merck used the protein products in the drug discovery process.
