After 2 semesters in college, two things immediately became clear to me; I love computers, and all that it entails, and that a traditional college was not for me. I Rhode Island College with this, and for a year I worked in an industry leaving me wanting much more. In the fall of 2014, I went to Launch Academy to fulfill this dream I had left behind. There I relearned Object Oriented programming, as well as an intermediate knowledge of "the Full Stack." I built a machine learning application in Ruby on Rails in demonstration of my new found knowledge.
After Launch Academy (LA) I began work at Cogo Labs as a Jr. DevOps Engineer where I took some of the skills learned at LA and put them to use along with a whole new set of Technologies. It was here that I moved from using Ruby for scripting to a combination of Python and Shell and learned what Operations meant to a team making money in a highly volatile market. I got to help maintain a robust code base, learn a "DevOps" workflow, work with emerging technologies, and really dive in onto what drives me. Although my time at Cogo Labs was rewarding, it became clear to me that I had no interest in working in email marketing and that it would be more cost effective to bring in someone internal to Cogo with much more experience.
Currently I am honing my new skill sets, practicing by building out small projects I hadn't had time for previously, and am excited about new opportunities and relationships I can build in the Boston and New York tech community.
