Information
AguaClara Reach is a New York State nonprofit 501(c)(3) born out of Cornell University, where for the past 10 years the lab has been developing the first community-sustainable, non-electric water treatment technologies in the world. This is an award-winning technology (Tech Awards ’11, Katerva Awards ’13, RELX 2nd Prize '16, Best for the World Overall 2015, 2017) that was created to offer resource-poor communities a more affordable option to get clean water on tap delivered to their homes. Since 2005, AguaClara engineers have provided design and technical support services to development organizations and local governments in the construction of 14 full-scale water treatment plants throughout Honduras, serving over 65,000 people in all. These plants are simple to operate, are made from all locally available materials, and are entirely powered by gravity. Graduates of the Cornell AguaClara program formed AguaClara LLC in 2013 to begin offering direct, professional services to implement the technology beyond Honduras. The company's worked to build 4 plants in the state of Jharkhand, India, serving another 2,000 people. In an effort to further expand its impact, AguaClara LLC converted to the nonprofit AguaClara Reach in 2017.
