We work to remove barriers in order to facilitate empowerment, health equity, and dignity for Arizonans impacted by drug use. As a small but deeply collaborative harm reduction organization, we address stigma and preventable illness for people who use drugs through direct outreach, capacity building assistance, and advocacy.

These services include syringe exchange programs, overdose prevention training, access to naloxone (an opioid overdose reversal medication), and educational workshops on substance use and mental health. SPW aims to reduce the stigma associated with drug use and promote health and safety in the community.

Harm reduction is a public health approach that aims to minimize the negative health, social, and legal impacts associated with drug use without necessarily requiring abstinence. SPW's mission is rooted in harm reduction principles, as they believe in meeting individuals where they are and providing them with the resources and support they need to improve their health and well-being. This approach fosters a safer environment for individuals who use drugs and promotes overall community health.
Yes, Sonoran Prevention Works provides access to naloxone, which is a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses. SPW offers naloxone training sessions where individuals can learn how to recognize an overdose and administer the medication effectively. Participants receive naloxone kits at no cost, empowering them to act in emergency situations and potentially save lives.
Sonoran Prevention Works collaborates with various industries, including healthcare, education, social services, and law enforcement. By partnering with these sectors, SPW aims to enhance community awareness about substance use issues, improve access to resources, and create a more integrated approach to addressing the challenges posed by substance use and addiction.
