Information
Neighborhood House is a community-based non-profit organization serving the Portland neighborhood of Louisville, KY. Our mission is to provide individuals with opportunities to enhance the quality of their lives. Our vision is to break the cycle of poverty for our children and families. "Life Needs. Life Skills. Life Dreams" describes the focus of the program services provided by Neighborhood House. We meet vital basic needs and make a long-term impact on the lives of those we serve. The Youth Development Program and Child Development Program served almost 550 children in 2013 and over 11,300 meals were served to youth through the Kids Cafe program. Over 2,500 individuals, including youth and senior citizens were helped at Neighborhood House through Family Services and Senior Citizen programming as well as an on-site food bank. Over 55% of the children in our neighborhood live below the poverty level and 43% of our families earn less than $25,000. To combat the perils of their environment and provide the education and skill development that research shows is tied to academic and career success, Neighborhood House provides enriching learning opportunities for our children and families. The programs offered by Neighborhood House address the developmental needs of infants to seniors with programs and services focused on early childhood development, educational programs for youth, job skill training for teenagers and providing balanced nutritious meals to children who would go hungry without, and family services including family engagement programs that have a direct correlation to reduction in child abuse and increased academic achievement. Neighborhood House is primarily funded through grants and the generosity of the greater Louisville community.
