Prantl’s Bakery has been a Pittsburgh icon for over 50 years. Henry and Jane Prantl, the original owners, retired from the business in 2007. Another entity owned and operated the business from 2008-2015. John M. Felice, a businessman from Greensburg, Pa., purchased Prantl’s in 2015.
Prantl’s Bakery produces a variety of sweets with old world traditional flare, including its nationally recognized Burnt Almond Torte. The torte was created by original owner, Henry Prantl. In 1960, while attending a convention of bakers in California, Henry was told there was an almond surplus, and the Almond Board of California was encouraging bakers to use almonds in new and inspiring ways. Henry experimented with a few ideas and created the recipe for the famous almond torte.
Prantl’s is considered one of the top bakeries in the country and is continually listed as an iconic bakery by a variety of local, national, and international publications.
Prantl’s cake design team creates custom wedding, anniversary, and special occasion cakes. The Greensburg facility also serves as Prantl’s test kitchen, producing new products for all locations.
