"Ad Fontes" is Latin, meaning, quite literally, "to [the] sources", a rallying cry of Reformation and Renaissance thought that led academics to understand the world through critical evaluations of historic written monuments. It was this return "to the sources" that drew men like Wycliffe, Luther, and Calvin, among many others, to critique and revise the church and the leading institutions of their day.
The purpose of Ad Fontes Press is to encourage faith in the truth and authority of the Bible and to promote trust in the character of God by publishing books (and articles, audio and other media) that:
• Examine the words and meaning of Scripture for knowledge and service (Exegesis and hermeneutics for homiletics, dogmatics, and orthopraxy),
• Transmit the tradition of faith received from former generations (Preservation),
• Trace the roots of beliefs held by the church today,
• Assess the influence and value of views held as socially normative.
It is my expectation and prayer that by returning to the sources of our faith, namely to the God on whom we depend, that we will see a new revision of the church and a restoration of its voice in our society.
