The Yamaha brand was introduced to Singapore by Mr Gen-ichi Kawakami, the then-President of Nippon Gakki Co. Ltd now known as Yamaha Corporation. He believed that music was a basic form of human expression and was determined to contribute to Singapore by offering premium music education and quality musical products to the masses. And in 1966, Yamaha Music (Asia) was formed. We began selling musical instruments in a shophouse along Serangoon Road. Two years later, we offered music courses from two small studios. But success did not come naturally. The market was already dominated by European brands. Nonetheless, we were committed to make a difference. Our vision was set. Working together with integrity and diligence, we kept our focus on research and development, never once stopping to provide craftsmanship and services of the highest quality. Little by little, the results spoke for themselves. Our student population grew dramatically; our musical instruments gained great demand. Till this day, we are humbled by the support of both our critics and supporters nationwide. Today, the story of Yamaha Music (Asia) is guided by the same values that have led the company from the beginning. Our success is not measured by business profit alone but also by the way we engage society meaningfully. We have provided high quality products and services for the market at affordable prices. Our musical instruments and innovative, top quality audio products are highly regarded by music professionals and customers in the B2B segment. Through Yamaha Music School, quality music education is made accessible to the public and even more affordable at Community Clubs of the People’s Association. These are our efforts in the popularization of music and contribution to the musical culture in Singapore.
