WIRES, NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc. is Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisation.Started in 1985 and officially launched as an organisation in 1986, WIRES celebrates 30 years of service to wildlife in 2016.WIRES has a network of over two thousand volunteer wildlife rescuers and carers operating across 28 branches around NSW. WIRES work with hundreds of supporting veterinary practices and a small staff team, to help tens of thousands of native animals every year.In the last financial years WIRES received over 95,000 requests for rescue assistance and advice to help sick, injured and orphaned wildlife.WIRES provide rescue and care services for wildlife 365 days a year.Many native animals require intensive care and treatment over many months. Some just need a place to rest and recover before they are returned to the wild. It takes a very special person to become a WIRES volunteer and WIRES are very fortunate to have hundreds of amazing volunteers doing inspiring work for wildlife 7 days a week, every week.
