WHO-HD Channel 13, owned by Tribune Company, is celebrating 60 years of broadcast service to central Iowa. Channel 13 News produces 34.5 hours of local news each week making it central Iowa's Local News Leader. WHO-HD continues to earn the most prestigious journalism awards in the broadcast industry. So far in 2014, the station has earned 3 prestigious regional Edward R. Murrow awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) including the categories of Investigation and News Series. Plus, 19 Eric Sevareid Awards from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association (MBJA) including accolades for Spot News, Investigative, and Best Newscast. In 2013, Channel 13 News earned an incredible 61 awards for journalism excellence…nearly double the awards the other central Iowa stations earned combined. The accomplishment included 18 Eric Sevareid awards from the Northwest Broadcast News Association, 2 Edward R. Murrow awards, 15 Iowa Broadcast News Association awards and 4 Emmy awards. The technological leader, WHO-HD Channel 13 is now utilizing a powerful-new S-Band Doppler Radar that includes the most advanced digital technology available in Iowa. On December 27, 2013, WHO-HD Channel 13 became owned by Tribune Company, one of the country’s leading multimedia companies, operating businesses in broadcasting, publishing, and interactive. The company’s broadcasting group owns or operates 42 television stations, WGN America on national cable, the national multicast networks Antenna TV and THIS TV, Tribune Studios and Chicago’s WGN-AM.
