On May 20, 1906, the first class of then Nebraska State Normal School at Kearney organized the Alumni Association and set forth its mission. “To promote in every proper way the interests of the Normal School and to foster among its members a sentiment of regard for one another and attachment to their Alma Mater.” Since 1906, the Alumni Association has worked to promote communication and interaction among alumni, students, faculty, administrators and friends of the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Serving more than 36,000 active alumni around the globe, the Association publishes a newspaper, UNK Today; works to develop alumni chapters across the nation; organizes reunion and Homecoming activities; sponsors Student Alumni Foundation; and coordinates the Distinguished Alumni Award, Distinguished Alumni Service Award, and Athletic Hall of Fame.
