The UW Department of Medicine advances the health of the people of Wisconsin and beyond through high-quality, patient-centered care, innovative research and education of the next generation of physicians. We are dedicated to internal medicine, the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of diseases in adults. As the largest academic department in the UW System, the Department of Medicine includes more than 375 faculty members and 700 advanced practice clinicians, researchers, trainees and staff. With emphasis on professionalism and patient-centeredness, department members are devoted to leadership and innovation. Our activities span twelve clinical areas, educational programs for every stage of medical careers, and a wide range of basic, translational, clinical, and population health research.
