UQBC was formerly known as the Students Investments Association (SIA). SIA was formed at the beginning of 2011 as an organisation that aided in the professional development of its members through weekly newsletters. The newsletters provided up to date financial information, analysis and insights across all sectors of the economy. The newsletter enhanced members’ knowledge of current financial situations, giving them a competitive advantage over other students at networking events and interviews with banks and professional service firms. Today, UQBC is a club that bridges the gap between the commercial banking industry and talented finance students by holding networking events where prospective summer interns or graduates can speak to representatives in order to obtain information about the respective programs. We actively seek to bring investment and commercial banks such as Commonwealth Bank (Platinum sponsor for 2013), ANZ and Westpac (Silver Sponsor for 2013) as well as UBS (Gold Sponsor for 2013) to our events. By March 2013 the membership base grew rapidly to just over 1000 members and is now one of the largest societies at the University of Queensland.
