History: The Center for Arts in Medicine formed at the University of Florida in 1995 when our founders Dr. John Graham-Pole, Dr. Rusti Brandman, and Jill Sonke, developed the nation's first university level coursework in the arts in healthcare. Building on the groundbreaking clinical work of our partner program, UF Health Shands Arts in Medicine, the Center formally established an educational unit at UF in 1999. Today, the Center forms a part of the UF College of the Arts and provides a framework for interdisciplinary collaboration among UF faculty and students; healthcare providers; and creative artists in health settings within the local & global communities. Through its programming and curriculum, the Center serves as a national and international model for arts in medicine research, education, and outreach.
