United Nations University - Institute For Environment And Human Security (UNU-EHS)

The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations. It bridges the academic world and the United Nations System as well as its Member States. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. At the United Nations Campus in Bonn, UNU is present in the form of the Vice Rectorate in Europe (UNU-ViE), which is part of UNU Centre and the Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS). UNU-EHS, founded in December 2003, deals with risk and vulnerability aspects of human security and the consequences of complex natural hazards and global change. UNU-EHS assumes that human security can be increased through education and appropriate adaptation measures. The research of UNU-EHS therefore aims at improving the understanding of cause-effect relationships and finding ways to reduce vulnerability for sustainability. UNU-EHS is host to the Enhancing Graduate Educational Capacities for Human Security section (EGECHS), Environmental Migration, Social Vulnerability and Adaptation section (EMSVA), Environmental Vulnerability and Ecosytem Services section (EVES), and Vulnerability Assessment, Risk Management and Adaptive Planning section.
