The UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UKATC) is the UK national centre for astronomical technology. We design and build instruments for many of the world’s major telescopes - both ground and space-based. We also project-manage UK and international collaborations. Our scientists carry out observational and theoretical research into fundamental questions such as the origins of planets and of galaxies.
The Innovation Group at the UK ATC also look to exploit these technologies and skills gained in the astronomy domain to other industrial sectors, including: bio-medical, environmental monitoring, space-borne earth-observation, defence & security, the energy industry, and more.
