About The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA)

RoSPA is a not-for-profit organisation that has worked for more than 100 years to help people recognise and reduce their risk of accidents, at home, on the road, at work and at leisure. Our goal is to enable everyone to live their lives to the full, safely.

Every year in the UK alone, 16,000 people die from accidental causes. This is the equivalent of killing the occupants of a double-decker bus every single weekday.

This is a shocking and unacceptable toll!

Accidents can be sudden and traumatic. In other cases the ill health effects can be chronic and symptoms take years to emerge and cause untold pain and suffering, not only to those directly affected but to family, friends, colleagues, bystanders and communities. And we know that most accidents happen to the most vulnerable in our society, with young children and older people often bearing the brunt.

At RoSPA we prevent accidents that are life-ending and life-changing

Accidents are still too often dismissed as inevitable, but there is so much that we can do to stop them from happening. We don’t have to accept accidental deaths in our homes, roads and workplaces. Together, we can achieve our vision of: Life free from serious accidental injury.
