The Children's Food Trust (formerly the School Food Trust) is a charity in the United Kingdom that aims to protect every child's right to eat well.
The Trust was originally set up in 2005, after Jamie Oliver's critique of the nutritional quality of school meals in England and the recommendations of the government-backed School Meals Review Panel. After overseeing the introduction of national standards for school meals and launching the first national guidelines on healthy food for under-fives in childcare, the charity has branched out and now supports families, government, organisations and businesses wanting to help children eat better – whether at school, at home or elsewhere.
The charity oversees school food standards in England and offers a nutritional consultancy service, menu checking and cookery training to childcare settings, schools and businesses. It runs Let’s Get Cooking – the country’s largest network of healthy cooking clubs for children and families, which has reached more than 3 million people. Its dedicated research programme is building the evidence base on the longer-term benefits of investment in better food for children and the charity is also interested in health and wellbeing in the workplace. Our Community Interest Company, Let's Get Cooking, is running the 'Let's Get Cooking at Work' programme to promote healthier eating at work through fun and interactive cooking workshops. The Children’s Food Trust are positioned as the expert organisation for children’s nutrition, food, healthy eating and cooking expertise across the UK - being the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) award holders for their work in improving public health and recipients of one of the Prime Minister’s Big Society Awards in 2014.
