The British University in Egypt (BUE), located in El Sherouk City, Cairo, is a prestigious institution that emerged from a 1998 Memorandum of Cooperation between the UK and Egyptian governments. Established to meet the growing demand for high-quality education in key sectors such as engineering, computer science, and business studies, BUE aims to produce graduates who meet UK standards. The university's foundation was supported by prominent figures, including Mr. Farid Khamis, and received a significant boost from the British Embassy and the British Council. Officially inaugurated by HRH Prince of Wales on March 22, 2006, BUE began with a modest campus comprising two buildings but has since expanded its facilities across a 60-acre site.

BUE offers a diverse range of programs through its seven initial faculties: Engineering, Informatics and Computer Science, Business Administration, Economics and Political Science, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Communication and Mass Media, Nursing, Law, and Arts and Humanities.
