Tamar Energy (Tamar) provides cost-effective, sustainable food and green waste recycling solutions through its award winning network of anaerobic digestion (AD) plants and composting sites around the UK.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) takes unavoidable food waste and produces renewable power and a nutrient-rich biofertiliser that is proven to increase crop yields. The REA’s “Renewable Energy Company of the Year” in 2014, Tamar produces low carbon, baseload energy to power thousands of homes.

Tamar also produces an environmentally friendly, additive free, premium grade compost from its green and commingled waste composting facilities.

We work with local authorities, waste contractors, food processors, and clients from across the retail, commercial and agricultural sector.

- Halstead, Essex (2 MWe)
- Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire (3 MWe)
- Holbeach, Lincolnshire (1.5 MWe)
- Retford, Nottinghamshire (3 MWe)

Our composting sites are:

- Beddingham OWC site (green waste)
- Lackford IVC site (commingled waste)
- Ongar OWC site (green waste)
- Parham IVC site (commingled waste)
- Swanley OWC site (green waste)
- Tempsford IVC site (commingled waste)

Tamar has won several awards, including Standout Fundraising Achievement of the Year (Cleantech Group Awards, April 2013), Renewable Energy Company 2014 (REA's 9th Annual British Renewable Energy Awards, June 2014) and Best On-Farm AD project 2014 (joint entry with Sutton Grange Anaerobic Digestion, at the UK's AD & Biogas Industry Awards, July 2014). Tamar was also the first AD developer in the UK to achieve a landmark non-recourse project finance facility (£32 million agreement with The Royal Bank of Scotland plc) in February 2015.
