The Stabat Mater Prayer Apostolate (SMPA) emerged in 2008 after several years of prayerful conversation among friends in Dallas, Texas. Our mission is to pray for and with artists and benefactors in order to advance the Culture of Life. Our hope is to effect cultural change by praying for the very creators of contemporary works of art. We propose that the images that bombard our present culture of death can change to more life-affirming ones if the creators of those images, our artists, are offered prayerful support for their vocation. We cite Pope John Paul the Great’s “Letter to Artists” (1999) as the fundamental document that explains why artists are so important to society. We want to know the needs of any artist, in any art form, so as to pray for graces for them and their families, imploring the Holy Spirit to touch their lives. Anyone can send prayer requests or request a Mass and those requests will be forwarded to the prayer chain. Prayer requests are confidential and can be anonymous if one wishes. Or they can be directed confidentially to a priest.
