St Andrews Radio (STAR) is the vibrant heartbeat of the University of St Andrews, having first launched in February 2005. As the official radio station of the university, STAR broadcasts daily from 10 AM to midnight, offering a diverse range of programming that caters to the eclectic tastes of its student body and the wider community. With a dedicated committee of 20 students and a dynamic roster of over 250 presenters, newsreaders, and producers, STAR fosters a collaborative environment that encourages creativity and innovation in broadcasting.
The station serves not only as a platform for music and entertainment but also as a vital source of news and information relevant to the university and local community. STAR organizes five major events each year, showcasing talent and engaging listeners, while also collaborating with two of St Andrews' largest events, further solidifying its presence in the local cultural landscape. In addition to live broadcasting, STAR publishes "Hearing Aid," a music magazine that appears twice a semester in both online and print formats, providing insights into the latest trends and happenings in the music scene.
The 2013/14 academic year marked a significant milestone for STAR, achieving record listening figures and an influx of new show sign-ups, reflecting its growing influence and popularity. Utilizing modern broadcasting technologies, STAR ensures high-quality audio and an engaging listening experience for its audience. With an active online presence through its website and social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, St Andrews Radio continues to connect with listeners, making it an essential part of the university's vibrant community.
