Spaulding Youth Center

For 140 years, Spaulding Youth Center, a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving and enriching the lives of emotionally and/or intellectually challenged children, youth and their families, has turned the tide on what has gone wrong for tens of hundreds of at-risk children in our community and region. Spaulding’s origins include the NH Orphans’ Home (1871), the Daniel Webster Home and Golden Rule Farm, which merged in 1958 to become Spaulding Youth Center at its present 470-acre site in Northfield, NH. Spaulding continuously develops programs, services and expertise in response to changing needs of children and youth who need a safe place where they can heal, learn and grow. The professional staff instills study skills, social skills, independent living skills, vocational skills, and an appreciation of learning that help a child reach his or her full potential. At Spaulding, all believe that every child deserves a childhood. Spaulding partners with public schools and state agencies to offer educational, therapeutic, residential and foster care services for children and youth with emotional and behavioral challenges, autism or other neurological impairments. Almost all students come from low to moderate income families, many have experienced abuse and/or neglect, and many are not able to return to their own homes because their families cannot provide the adequate care required by children with special needs.
