Sistema.bio is a social enterprise that provides access to innovative biodigester technology, training and financing to address the challenges of poverty, food security, and climate change. They manufacture and distribute high-quality, affordable biodigesters that enable farmers to convert waste into renewable energy and organic fertilizer. By providing flexible repayment plans and comprehensive monitoring services, Sistema.bio works with farmers to ensure they become more sustainable, independent, and productive.
Sistema.bio was founded in 2010 in Central Mexico after five years of research and development on their technology and business model. The rich agricultural culture and wide variety of climate and socio-economic conditions in which they were born created a robust technology and business model that could scale to serve smallholder farms around the world. They are now working on over 53,200 farms around the world, with the potential to bring clean energy and sustainable agricultural practices.
From operational hubs and field offices in Latin America, East Africa and Asia, Sistema.bio’s team engages directly with farmers and local farmer networks to promote sustainable farming in local languages, with local leaders and under local conditions. Sistema.bio is currently offering direct sales around local field offices in Mexico, Colombia, Kenya and India, as well as 31 other countries through their partnerships. Sistema.bio is also actively looking to support organizations and enterprises that want to implement biogas programs with farmers in their communities.
Sistema.bio is the 2019 Ashden Clean cooking Awards winner and the 2017 Buckminster Fuller Institute Finalist. Our Founder Alex Eaton is an Ashoka and Endeavor Fellow.
