The School of Communication Arts was first founded by John Gillard in 1985. It is portfolio-based 1 year educational program for the creative advertising industry (Copywriting and Art Direction). The current dean, Marc Lewis was one of Gillard’s scholarship students' who decided to re-open the school shortly after John Gillard's death in 2000.The School operates as a not-for-profit social enterprise. It is supported by a network of over 1000 industry mentors who donate both time and wisdom, and benefits from financial sponsorship from agencies including M&C Saatchi PR, BMB, Edelman, Metro, Havas and Sapient Razorfish to name a few. The teaching model for the school includes daily masterclasses from industry greats. These include classes from Sir John Hegarty, Rory Sutherland, Laura Jordan-Bamach and Steve Henry.The School champions diversity and runs an annual scholarship competition to open up opportunity to young creatives from all backgrounds. Approximately one third of students benefit from this scheme.The school is one of the most awarded in the world and renowned for producing the best-prepared, most avidly sought-after young creatives the industry has to offer.The school has an average 99% success rate for securing student work placements at the end of the course.
