Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) is an international agricultural development NGO registered in Geneva, Switzerland. It was co-founded in 1986 by Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman Borlaug, Japanese philanthropist Ryoichi Sasakawa (Nippon Foundation), and former US President Jimmy Carter. Since then, SAA has worked with the Carter Center’s Global 2000 Program to establish Sasakawa Global 2000 (SG 2000) agricultural programs in 14 sub-Saharan countries.
Currently, our resources are focused on four countries – Ethiopia, Nigeria, Mali and Uganda. Working with national partners, SG 2000 programs have improved the productivity and profitability of smallholder farmers by encouraging the adoption of higher-yielding varieties and enhanced production practices.
