Richmond Rugby was formed in 1861.
Richmond Rugby has played an important role in the history of the game of rugby, often leading from the front, starting with the first inter-club fixture in 1864 against Blackheath. It is one of the 8 founding clubs to have formed the Rugby Football Union (RFU) in 1871 and one of the first clubs to embrace professionalism in 1996.
Today our Men's 1st XV are one of the top 24 teams in England, competing in the Greene King IPA Championship. Our Women's First XV compete in the RFU Championship South.
But Richmond is about more than it's elite teams. It aims to offer rugby for all age groups and all abilities with 5 senior men's teams, 2 senior women's teams, all youth age groups, all minis age groups and the Heavies for the more 'mature' out there.
Whilst playing in the professional leagues, the club is amateur in ethos and built around rugby's core values. A belief that this is 'One Club' drives everything we do and creates a unique environment of elite and participation sport being played alongside one another for the good of all sections.
