RI Dept of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities & Hospitals (BHDDH)

BHDDH has three major operational divisions: Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities, and the state hospital system, known as Eleanor Slater Hospital. The Department is responsible for running a responsive, caring and efficient system of person-centered services. Wellness, recovery, and parity are the themes the agency uses to combat stigma and to move closer to an inclusive society. The Department works to create safe, affordable, integrated services for all Rhode Islanders, while collaborating with community partners to be champions of the people that need assistance in a timely, efficient and effective manner. This also means building capacity and ensuring every door is the right door for care, while simultaneously working to make sure there is parity and that healthcare is equitable.Our Mission:BHDDH is here to serve Rhode Islanders who live with mental illness, substance use disorder and/or a developmental disability by maintaining a system of high quality, safe, affordable and coordinated care across the spectrum of behavioral health care services. The Department promotes the health, safety and well-being of all Rhode Islanders by developing policies and programs that address the issues of mental illness, addiction, recovery and community support.Our Vision:To be a leader in the development of innovative, evidence-based programs that improve care delivery, strengthen the service delivery network and best serve those who use the system.
