We founded Polypill of America to provide patients and their physicians an effective way to address the critical issue of adherence to multi-medication heart therapy. Our goal is to reduce medical errors and improve health outcomes, all while encouraging convenience and independence for the millions of people who find it challenging to manage large numbers of pills day in and day out. What a Polypill® pharmacy does is combine many of today’s most commonly prescribed heart medications in a single, once-daily capsule. One customized dose of Polypill® heart compound may include an ACE Inhibitor, a Beta Blocker, a Calcium Channel Blocker, a Diuretic, a Statin and other essential medications. Specific ingredients and their dosages will vary based on each patient’s needs, making for a truly individualized formulation. It’s an idea whose time has come. The concept of a single-dose, multiple-medication heart compound was first proposed in the British Medical Journal in 2003 by Doctors Nick Wald and M.R. Law. That meta-analysis was followed up with a double-blind field study of more than 2,000 at-risk patients in India, published in The Lancet in 2009. The results were compelling enough that a follow-up is being performed now, with additional studies in the works.
