About Plymouth Marine Laboratory

Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) is a world-leading research organization, and registered charity, undertaking pioneering marine research for the benefit of us all.

The ocean and seas are essential to every one of us. They regulate weather and climate, produce oxygen for us to breathe, provide food, chemicals and energy, and support our economies by providing employment in many sectors including transport, tourism, fishing, energy and biotechnology.

Our research is a unique combination of observation, experimentation, modelling activities and socio-economic expertise, which together provides a greater understanding of the dynamic and complex marine environment. Topics we cover range from carbon dioxide capture and storage to marine plastics.

In addition, we have a commercial trading subsidiary, PML Applications Ltd, which delivers services, products and solutions related to the marine environment in key sectors such as ballast water management, biofouling, and satellite applications.
