North Star Foundation

North Star Foundation supports people with intellectual disabilities and complex health needs to lead full lives, often working alongside family, friends and other support networks. Time after time, North Star has proven that young people with disabilities benefit enormously from ordinary living within the heart of their communities, surrounded by friends and family, and going to work. North Star forms enduring relationships with the people using its services and their families, taking time and making effort to get to know its customers well, what makes them tick, and what opportunities can be created for their inclusion. In the absence of opportunities for ordinary living - which most of us take for granted - people with disabilities are at great risk of leading marginalised lifestyles in "specialist care" settings, alongside other care users, missing out on opportunities, friends, and family, and simply surviving. North Star is a well organised and creative team of social care and health professionals. We partner up with the statutory sector, voluntary sector, housing and local business leaders. Examples of partnerships include: - Working with local employers to provide workers including catering assistants, stewards, groundspersons, pet handlers, packers, and so on. - Setting up stable and guaranteed tenancies with landlords who can provide us with suitable accommodation. - Partnering with other social care providers to maximise opportunities for our customers. Our team of workers are an extremely talented and diverse group who understand the essential nature of team work, who are unrelenting in delivering our aims, and who harness their previous skills and experience to make giant differences to the lives of people we support.
