NIHR for Industry

We are funded by the UK government to help life sciences companies and Clinical Research Organisations to deliver clinical research. We work with companies on the full range of research studies from early stage, translational research through to later stage clinical trials, across all therapeutic areas.Our services to industry provide: - access to clinical research expertise - expert support for the set-up and delivery of trials in the NHS - access to well characterised cohorts of patients suitable for research, including the ability to recall based on genotype and phenotype - signposting to relevant funding schemesAccess our expertiseOur experts in the country’s leading universities and hospitals are available to collaborate on clinical research and help develop a potential therapeutic or technology. These experts include clinicians, laboratory scientists, health economists, statisticians, methodologists, biomedical engineers and world-leading experts and specialists in a range of therapeutic areas. Our NIHR collaborations provide ready-formed national networks of experts to work undertake commercial and non-commercial studies with industry partners.Support for SMEs We work in partnership with medical device and diagnostics companies to help them successfully translate ideas into innovative medical technologies for use in the NHS. This covers all stages of product development: from identifying unmet clinical needs to designing and running clinical studies.Running studies in the NHSThe NIHR Study Support Service is free of charge and helps researchers in the life sciences industry to plan, set-up and deliver high quality research to time and target within the NHS. This includes study feasibility, study set-up, costings and contracts negotiations, and performance monitoring. Companies and Contract Research Organisations can utilise this service regardless of location, study type, study size, or therapy area.
