The purpose of government is to protect individual liberties and defend us from foreign invaders. The Democrats and Republicans have forgotten the role of the government, and instead want to involve themselves in every aspect of our lives. Because of the actions of the two major parties, almost everything we do that's important in our lives involves requesting government permission. If you want to fly on a plane, start a business, get a job, get married, or build a house, we must get permission from the government in one form or another. This is all under the guise of protecting us from ourselves because politicians think they know how to run our lives better than we do. Since the founding of the Libertarian Party in 1971, we have promoted a very simple and principled philosophy -- That every person has a right to their life, liberty, and justly-acquired property. If we lived by that golden rule, our society would be much better in virtually every way. I don't want to run your lives. I seek office to remove the restrictions that government has placed on this country that have hindered its prosperity.
