The New York Flyers was founded in 1989, with the goal of establishing a running club open to individuals of all athletic abilities and experience levels. The New York Flyers is one of the oldest and largest clubs in New York City, but we take pride in our "small club feel."​ Members train together, cheer one another on at races,... and party too. We have competitive age-group runners and those that just want to get better. We have triathletes, duathletes and plain good athletes. Our adventurous members travel to competitions all over the US and beyond. Or better yet come out to one of our weekly group runs in Central Park and get acquainted. You can find the meeting times and places on our website. For more focused training, we have a coached marathon training program and speed-work classes that meet throughout the year. Also, we organize long training runs leading up to the NYC Marathon, including our popular Three Bridges and Palisades runs. As enthusiastic as we are about running, we are equally enthused about our active social calendar, which includes Flyer Friday happy hours through the summer season, a December holiday party, and our Annual Awards Gala. Some group runs end with members and friends gathering for drinks or something to eat. We also try to work some charitable events into the calendar such as our the Toys for Tots run, Central Park clean-ups, and raising funds for the Food Bank for New York City. With our busy events calendar, there are plenty of fun volunteering opportunities throughout each calendar year.
