Information
New Cities of the Mediterranean Sea basin is a stantard project of ENPI CBC MED (I-B/1.3/561) programme funded by EuropeAid under the Joint Managing Authority Autonomous Region of Sardinia. The NEWCIMED project focuses on the enhancement of the cultural heritage and territorial planning capacities of the so-called “New Towns”, a urban phenomenon which is diffused in the Mediterranean area. A new town is a city or community that was carefully planned from its inception and is typically constructed in a previously undeveloped area. The project develops a new model which will enhance the value of urbanisation, whether historical or modern that can identify guidelines for enhancing the development of new cities. The project, however, doesn’t so much concentrate on the architectural elements (which have attracted most analyses of urban typologies) but on the socio-economic aspects of this modality of historic development in enriching the involved these mixed contexts between urban and rural areas. Shared planning has been considered as an essential step in identifying those development strategies capable of improving the quality of life and social cohesion. Method GOPP/Goal Orientated Project Planning and Project Cycle Management/PCM will be used. Partners 1. University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (Italy, Lazio) 2. “Progetto Sud” Institute (Italy, Lazio) 3.
