Nan McKay and Associates

I joined Nan McKay in January 2019 as the Vice President of Finance. Previously I work briefly for BDO when Casterline Associates, the firm I helped build and manage, combined in with BDO’s existing housing practice in March of 2018. I have specialized in Public Housing and Section 8 accounting since 1991. I started in the PHA industry in the Accounting department for a Connecticut PHA. I have worked with over150 PHAs ranging from less than 100 to 40,000 units, including severely distressed authorities as well as high performing agencies. I have worked in 41 states as well as assisted Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority, Puerto Rico Department of Housing and Virgin Islands Housing Authority. I have personally trained over 3,500 PHA and HUD personnel in the course of delivering over 120 workshops in 23 states. During the period of 2006 to 2008 I conducted over 50 in-house training seminars related to Asset Management and project based accounting, and I am recognized as an expert on these rules. This training was designed to educate all housing authority staff to coincide with the HUD designed Asset Management regulations. I have worked with and become proficient with a number of programs including the Public Housing Program, the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV), the project-based Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation (Mod Rehab) and New Construction programs, Capital Fund grants (CFP), Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD), Moving to Work (MTW), Homeownership Opportunities for People Everywhere (HOPE VI), Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency (ROSS), Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), the Financial Data Schedule (FDS) and Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS) and various other programs and grants. I have developed and administered numerous training sessions for these programs including RAD, CFP, HCV and Public Housing.I have also served as a transitional controller for several large and small PHAs.
