On December 28, 2017, the Rhode Island Department of Health announced the approval of Care New England’s reverse certificate of need application to move forward with the functional closure of Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department.

As of January 1, 2018, Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be closed.
